BOOK TALK VOL.01 features a talk by Liu Chao-tze and Lin Junye from 傻瓜書日Fotobook DUMMIES Day, a Taiwanese artist collective based in Taipei and Rotterdam. In this talk, Chao-tze and Junye share their insights into the self-published photographic publications landscape in Taiwan and Southeast Asia through the practices of 傻瓜書日 Fotobook DUMMIES Day. The duo shared their past and ongoing projects including the 傻瓜書日Fotobook DUMMIES Day book fairs in Taiwan, an online platform and bookshop, and ‘Reading SEA Project’, a field survey into Southeast Asia’s self-published photographic publications scene. They further introduced a series of self-published photographic publications by Taiwanese artists and photographers and shared a list of cultural institutions, publishers, and book stores which are devoted to photobook publishing. Chao-tze and Junye concluded the talk by sharing a list of artist residencies in Taiwan which actively make an exchange with Southeast Asian artists for those who might be interested.

BOOK TALK VOL.02 features a talk by Dr.Johnny Drain, a co-founder and editor of MOLD Magazine, moderated by Gai Lai Mitwichan, a food anthropologist and the restaurateur of TONKIN-ANNAM. The talk explores MOLD Magazine’s key subject on what could the future of food look like through the cases of emerging design, innovations, lifestyles, and visions that are shaping the courses of food.

The talk began with the MOLD Magazine‘s background introduction and a quick summary of each issue by Dr.Drain. He later shared his works and personal research projects, which he creatively incorporated his scientific background in material science to apply in food. The projects include his personal fascinations in fermentation where he pursued to create the fermented food that is appetizing yet sustainable. Later in the talk, Mitwichan also shared his visions about the future of food manifesting through his ongoing farm project where he grew a collection of rare herbs from around the world for researching and archiving these fleeting tastes for the future.

The conversation between Dr.Johnny Drain and Gai Lai Mitwichan were held in English with Thai translation by Nunnaree Panichkul.
