Biella – Archaeology of Woolf Manufacture is a series of documentary photographs taken from an abandoned factory in Biella, Italy, a town that used to be famous for wool manufacturing. Surrounded by valleys, Biella is perfectly situated for the industry. The wool business began as a family workshop and eventually grew into a huge industry during Italy’s industrial revolution in the early 18th century. Expansion of market in 80s, the shift in global production that expanded into Asia, the development of the conveyer belt production, and the new economic power structure had greatly impacted the Western industrial world. The shutting down of this wool factory at Biella in 2001 is hence an example of the repercussions. Wut Chalanant’s work is a documentation of a town through its social changes, its multifacetedness, reflected by images of scenery and everyday objects from the industrial world of the past.
Wut Chalanant is an artist/photographer originally from Ching Mai Thailand, he is currently studying his Meisterschueler with Joachim Brohm, Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig, Germany
