Through speculative design, Afro-surrealism, critical fabulations and alternative pedagogies, this publication explored the potential of fiction as a tool for social change. This was FICTION PRACTICE, a laboratory of expanded curatorship create for the first edition of Porto Design Biennale. They called it a Young Curator Lab. For one week, in four rooms, over forty people designed other words, brought impossibilities to life, remixed histories and artifacts, disclosed paralleled dimensions, and modelled ontological oddities. Together, they stretched their imaginations to enact possibilities, prototype the otherworldly and think about how reality can change. Their aim was to create a platform around which many design practitioners — from writers to designers and curators — would gather to imagine new relationships between objects and ideas.
