“Still, the cinema was built out of devotion and negligence. A living space, yet not lived in. When they play movies on the massive white wall, this cinema’s body slowly awakens from its slumber. Its multiple eyes flicker as light dances across rows of empty seats, while sounds echo in a thundering cascade in its roaring belly of an amphitheater, taking those inside in an acoustic hostage.”
In this epistolary essay, Hung Duong weaves through fictionalized journeys to explore animistic bodies, immaterial objects, memory, and the architecture of cinema. Written as a letter, this piece emerges in response to Korakrit Arunanondchai’s solo exhibition, Love After Death.
Hung Duong is an independent writer and translator, whose reflection on contemporary art spans a diverse spectrum of subtle forms and themes, addressing sociopolitical issues, micro-histories, and material reinterpretations.

“แต่ภาพยนตร์ยังคงถือกำเนิดจากการอุทิศตนและการเพิกเฉย เป็นที่สิงสู่ หากยังไม่มีใครมาอยู่อาศัย เมื่อภาพเคลื่อนไหวปรากฏบนผนังสีขาว กายหยาบของโรงหนังก็ค่อยๆ ตื่นจากหลับใหล ดวงตากระพริบพราย ลำแสงร่ายรำไปตามแถวที่นั่งว่างเปล่า พลันเสียงฟ้าผ่าทะลักไหล เพลงครวญก้องสะท้อนในโรงมหรสพขนาดมหึมาและจับผู้ที่อยู่ภายในเป็นตัวประกัน”
ความเรียงในรูปแบบจดหมายเขียนโดย ฮุง เยือง ชิ้นนี้ ร้อยเรียงผ่านการเดินทางสมมติ เพื่อสำรวจเรื่องเรือนร่างตามแนวคิดวิญญาณนิยม วัตถุไร้รูป ความทรงจำ และสถาปัตยกรรมของภาพยนตร์ โดยผลงานนี้เขียนขึ้นมาเพื่อโต้ตอบกับนิทรรศการเดี่ยว Love After Death ของกรกฤต อรุณานนท์ชัย
ฮุง เยือง เป็นนักเขียนและนักแปลอิสระ เขาบอกเล่ามุมมองที่มีกับศิลปะร่วมสมัยในรูปแบบและหัวข้อที่หลากหลาย ครอบคลุมตั้งแต่ประเด็นด้านสังคมการเมือง ประวัติศาสตร์กระแสรอง ตลอดจนการอ่านและให้ความหมายกับวัสดุขึ้นมาใหม่
