Look at the Star, Look How They Shine for You   is a collection of photographs of various spaces and objects left behind in a women’s prison located in the center of Chiangmai city. The prison was a once palace owned by the rulers of the Lan Na Kingdom, the period where Chiangmai was the capital. Objects ranging from love letters to photographs of empty cells are juxtaposed with images of the everyday. The idea of entrapment becomes intertwined with images of ordinary life. For the artist, being exempted from physical imprisonment does not connote total freedom; our freedom to think and feel is subjected to the limitations imposed by a regime of power in a kingdom situated in a time of uncertainty. The photographs in this collection were taken in 2013 and was curated by the artist in 2017.

Ded Chongmankong is a photo artist, photographer and cultural activist based in Chiangmai Thailand, who is engaged in Thailand’s political and social issues.
