Welcome to the 36th issue of The Funambulist. They Have Clocks, We Have Time is an issue to challenge the colonial standardization of time, its measurement, its retrospective reading as “history”, its practice, its memorial production, and its representation in U.S. sundown towns, Ireland & Palestine, Warsaw & Paris, the Indian Subcontinent, the Horn of Africa, the Sahara, in dictatorial and bordering regimes, and more. “They Have Clocks, We Have Time” is an expression we heard a few times in Kanaky, where the cyclicity of the clocks may reinsure the colonial order, but its end is only… a matter of time.

The issue’s cover is an artwork by Black Quantum Futurism. This mixed media entitled Breaking the Future Horizon(2018) and as part of the Temporal Disruptors series. As Rasheedah Phillips explain, “The Temporal Disruptors is a collection of watches inspired by and named for the contributions of Black Women scientists, healers, and inventors. The watches are specially re-crafted by Black Quantum Futurism to embody the temporal features of Black womanist and Black quantum futurist time(s).”

They Have Clocks, We Have Time ที่ท้าทายต่อการสร้างมาตรฐานเวลาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการล่าอาณานิคม การวัดค่าของมัน การอ่านมันย้อนหลังในฐานะ “ประวัติศาสตร์”, วิถีปฏิบัติของมัน, ที่ระลึกการผลิตของมัน, และภาพแทนของมันในเมืองที่มีแต่คนขาวของสหรัฐฯ, ไอร์แลนด์และปาเลสไตน์, วอร์ซอว์และปารีส, อนุทวีปในอินเดีย, จะงอยแอฟริกาในทางตะวันออกสุดของทวีป (Horn of Africa), ทะเลทรายซาฮาร่า, ภายใต้ระบอบเผด็จการและชายแดน, และที่อื่นๆ They Have Clocks, We Have Time (พวกเขามีนาฬิกา, เรามีเวลา) เป็นคำกล่าวที่เราได้ยินบ่อยครั้งในคานากี (Kanaky หรือ New Caledonia อาณานิคมพิเศษในดินแดนโพ้นทะเลของฝรั่งเศส) ที่ซึ่งวัฏจักรของนาฬิกาเป็นเครื่องรับประกันระบบระเบียบของอาณานิคม แต่จุดจบของมันเป็นเพียง…
